Grouping Objects

Grouping objects makes several objects behave as one so that you can move, resize, or rotate them all at the same time. Grouping objects preserves your arrangement of the objects. You can tell if an object is part of a group by clicking the object. Grouped objects have one set of handles for several objects and the Group button looks closed. To group objects:

  • Hold down the mouse button and drag the mouse around the objects to be grouped - creating a box around them. Then click the Group button. 0x01 graphic

  • When you see the Move Pointer you can move the object by clicking on it and dragging the mouse.

Zooming to Change the View

In Publisher 2000, viewing text and graphics is easy when you increase and decrease the magnification of the image on screen with Zoom mode. This does not change the actual size of the publication. There are five ways to change the view:

  • On the Standard toolbar, click the Zoom drop-down box next to the plus and minus signs and then select a new view.

  • Click the plus sign (+) on the Standard toolbar to increase the magnification (view size) up to 400%.
    - Or -
Click the minus sign (-) on the Standard toolbar to decrease the view size to as small as 10%.

  • On the View menu, click Zoom and select a new view.

  • Right-click on the publication and then click Whole Page, Page Width, Actual Size, or Selected Objects.

  • Click an object in your publication. Press F9 to zoom in or out to 100%.

Printing

Follow these tips to help ensure a successful desktop printing job.

  • If you're printing on a color printer, print Publisher's color sampler to compare color differences between your screen and the printed publication.

  • Some color graphics don't print well in black and white. Use the Recolor Picture command to convert a color graphic to black and white before printing your publication.

  • Making last minute changes can be costly, so check your publication carefully before printing.

  • Use the Design Checker on the Tools menu. It looks for empty frames, text in overflow areas, and other potential design problems.

  • When you're finished writing your publication, run the spell check on the Tools menu to catch any spelling errors.

  • Proofread your publication to make sure the content, tone, and wording are appropriate for your audience. Then proofread it for grammar and punctuation errors.
